Rapid development and economic prosperity of any nation depends increasingly on major advances in Space Science and Technology of which Satellite Remote Sensing and Geo-informatics are major components.

A nation needs a well-informed, scientifically literate population that is capable of adapting to and working with new and emerging technologies for overall sustainable development. Space technology has emerged as an indispensable and dependable tool for resource management and decision-making.

Akwa Ibom-Cross River Ground Truthing exercise

A week sojourn (17th to 23rd January, 2020) for a quest to improve and explore our environment for better socio-economic benefits. ASTAL group of researchers were able to delineate and evaluate the extent of land degradation using Space Technology.

Digital Image Processing Laboratory testing and analysis was carried out after the field work, and a final report was generated and compiled officially for stakeholders and policy makers' consumption.

2021 Workshop

A 3-Day capacity building workshop on ICT and new Computer-based technologies into Science teaching and education for Science teachers was organised by Camondale Projects Limited in collaboration with ASTAL Uyo, with the support of the National Centre for Remote Sensing (NCRS), Jos, National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Abuja, Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (FMSTI), and the University of Uyo, in a Public-Private-Partnership initiative of the FGN.

This workshop held at the Multipurpose Hall, University of Uyo Main Campus, Nwaniba Road, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, for Akwa Ibom and Cross River States' Science teachers from 6th - 8th September, 2021.

Delta State Expedition

Generation of Geospatial information on Coastal and Marine environment for sustainable development in Delta State

In furtherance to the environmental research and development strides in the South-South region by the Nigeria Space Agency, a technical team from ASTAL Uyo, during the 2023 activity year accomplished a field study and ground truthing exercise for the generation of geospatial information on coastal and marine environment for sustainable development in Delta State, Nigeria.

The field study covered various Local Government Areas of the State, cutting across Bomadi, Burutu, Ethiope, Patani, Sapele, Udu, Ughelli, Uvwie and Warri Central.


It is the dawn of a new era as the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) witnessed the emergence of a new Director General, Dr. Matthew Adepoju, following his appointment by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Until his appointment to the exalted position, he was Head of the Strategic Space Applications department at the NASRDA Headquarters.

Thursday, 26th May, 2022, a team of delegates from the Committe of Vice-Chancellors and Deputy Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU), led by the Secretary General, Prof. Yakubu Aboki Ochefu, together with the UNIUYO Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nyaudoh Ukpabio Ndaeyo paid an official visit to ASTAL Uyo, in consonance with their 3-day Executive Leadership Development Prorgramme held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
